I love your pockets- especially the colours you’ve put together. As your grey fabric was a bit finer than the others maybe you needed a finer, sharper needle?

I had just the same feeling about following a pattern to make something wonky when I read that book. Your pockets would make a sweet quilt.
The grey fabric – you could try starching it first, or try sewing with the grey against the presser foot (on top) rather than against the feed dogs. Or try a walking foot if you have one.
